ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Many sporting events in the Rochester area and across the world have been canceled or postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The American Legion’s 92nd Annual Welcome Home Dinner was canceled. Fans who have already purchased single-game tickets will be notified about ticket exchanges and credits once there is more clarity as to the number of games that will be impacted. 

The start of the Red Wings baseball season has been delayed and the Baseball's Back Bash has been postponed. The Season Seat pickup date will be announced once Opening Day is determined. Pickups will be communicated directly to individuals and businesses. The Red Wings Front Office and Team Store will be closed to the public as of Saturday, March 14 until further notice.

The Rochester Americans suspended its season. 

YellowJacket Racing has postponed all of its races that are scheduled through the end of April. 

  • Roots n Road (March 21) - rescheduled to Aug. 22 or 23 in Mendon Ponds Park
  • Dirt Cheap Race 1 (April 8) - rescheduled to Sept. 9 in Mendon Ponds Park 
  • Hippity Hop Fun Run and Kids Egg Hunt (April 11) - the virtual run will still take place; the Kids Egg Hunt and Family Fun Run/Walk cancelled
  • Flower City Challenge (April 19) - rescheduled to fall 2020 

Rochester Running Company also canceled the Runnin' of the Green.

The New York State Public High School Athletic Association has canceled all remaining Winter Championships for ice hockey, bowling and boys and girls basketball. The NYSPHSAA previously postponed the events, but now officials say rescheduling will not be possible. Click here for more details.

Opening Day Trout Derby at the Riedman Foundation and Fish Hatchery was postponed. When a new date is set, it will be posted on the foundation's website.

The Monroe Invitational is canceled.


Major League Soccer is postponing all games until at least May 10.

The PGA Championship was scheduled for May 14 through May 17. It is postponed.

NFL draft events for the public in Las Vegas in April are canceled according to The Associated Press.

The NCAA has canceled the men's and women's basketball tournaments and all of its championships in every winter and spring sport, including hockey, baseball, lacrosse and several others.

In golf, the 2020 Masters Golf Tournament, Augusta National Women's Amateur and the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals and the Players Championship have all been postponed until further notice.

Organizers of the Boston Marathon, the planet's most celebrated footrace, are postponing the event until Sept. 14.

NASCAR has postponed its next two races in Atlanta and Miami and next weekend' events at Homestead. IndyCar has canceled its next four races while the first four races of the Formula One season have been called off.

NBA suspended its season after a Utah Jazz player tested positive for COVID-19.

The NHL has followed suit and suspended its season until further notice. 

Major League Baseball is halting spring training and will delay Opening Day by at least two weeks.

MLS has suspended its season for 30 days. 

The NFL has canceled its main owners' meeting scheduled for later this month in Palm Beach, Florida.

The British Open was canceled for the first time since WWII.

Masters Week was postponed until November.
