ALBANY, N.Y. (WHEC) — There's a push from lawmakers to get every worker across the state paid sick time.
The proposal is part of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s 2020 state budget.
Under the plan, businesses with five to 99 employees would have to provide workers with at least five days of paid sick time. Businesses with 100 or more workers must give at least seven days. Small businesses would be required to provide five days of job-protected unpaid sick time.
According to a national study by the Public Welfare Foundation, nearly 25% of workers say they lost their job or were threatened to lose their job for taking sick time.
