ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) – A woman is suing the City of Rochester, Rochester police officers, Monroe County and sheriff’s deputies. She claims tear gas used during a protest back in September 2020 caused her miscarriage.

According to paperwork filed Friday, Jesse Ames was at a protest on September 4, 2020 in the wake of the death of Daniel Prude. The lawsuit alleges the use of tear gas by law enforcement against hundreds of protestors on the Court Street bridge resulted in Ames’ injuries of irritation to her skin, eyes, mouth, nose, lungs, and a miscarriage.

News10NBC reached out to the City, Monroe County, the sheriff’s office and RPD for comment.

RPD Lt. Greg Bello said, “I confirmed with the law department that we have not been served with any law suits on behalf of Jesse Ames. That being said, we are unable to comment on any pending litigation.”

We’ll let you know if we hear back from the others.
