CHURCH HILL, Tenn. (WHEC/WCYB) -- A Tennessee woman is charged with two counts of animal cruelty after police say they found a dead dog and a caged monkey in the bathtub of her home.
Lisa Jean Wade, 41, was released from jail on a $2,000 bond .
However, the custody of the 19-year-old macaque monkey, Josie, remains uncertain.
She is currently being housed at the Hawkins County Humane Society until her case is resolved in Hawkins County Sessions Court.
Her son, Cody Wade, visited Josie at the humane society claiming his mother signed over custody.
"The way I see Josie, she's my sister. She's not a primate. She has been with me from the beginning from a young age. I've always seen her as 'that's my sister, that's not a monkey,'" said Cody.
He says the monkey is more like family and says he's building an enclosure for Josie in his yard.
