ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — News10NBC is watching the race for Rochester City School Board. The city school district is still struggling with graduation rates and facing a possible state takeover.

Last week, News10NBC highlighted school board candidates. There are 10 candidates but only 4 seats up for grabs in the Democratic primary.

Tuesday's election will decide which four people will serve four-year terms on the Rochester City School District Board of Education. Three of the candidates have already been serving.

The candidates chosen Tuesday will serve on the board starting in January 2020.

In November, there will be another question on the ballot when it comes to Rochester education. The question will be should the state take over the city school district and appoint a new board of education.

Candidates elected Tuesday night will have that looming over their heads.

Polls close at 9 p.m. Watch News10NBC at 11 for complete coverage and keep track of the results online.
