NEWARK, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Newark Police Department issued two tickets on Friday, Sept. 20 for the fatal dog stabbing that occurred in Newark.
Police say Troy A. Brown and Teala M. Young each were issued an appearance ticket for one count of unlicensed dog and one count of a dog running at large. They will appear at the Newark Town Court on Oct. 2 at 1:30 p.m.
On Sept. 17, Police responded to a disturbance call around 7 p.m. on 513 West Union St, Cannery Row Mall. Upon arrival and investigation, they determined a dog was fatally stabbed at the parking area of Edgett Street at the Erie Canal Path trailhead.
Police interviewed the deceased dog's owner, Troy A. Brown, and his significant other, Teala M. Young, the other person involved, Edward Hilfiker and reviewed a surveillance camera that indicates two unleashed dogs came from the rear of 513 West Miller St. directly crossing Edgett Street to the trailhead parking area.
Police say the dogs began to physically interact with Hilfiker's 9-year-old mix-breed dog around the neck and legs. When Hilfiker was unable to separate the two dogs from his own, the dog that was attached to the neck area was fatally stabbed.
The incident is currently under review by the Wayne County District Attorney's Office.
