SHELDON, N.Y. (WHEC) — A 20-year-old man is facing multiple charges after deputies say he caused a deadly crash in Wyoming County.
Police say a minivan carrying nine people from New Jersey was struck by a pickup truck at an intersection on Route 20A in Sheldon around 6:30 a.m. Sunday.
Two women were thrown from the SUV and were pronounced dead on the scene. A four-year-old was taken to Wyoming County Community Hospital where she later died. Six others, including three children, were taken to area hospitals with serious injuries.
The driver of the truck, Richard Sawicki, of Lackawanna, is facing charges of aggravated vehicular homicide, DWI, and reckless driving. Police say Sawicki went through the intersection without stopping, causing the crash.
He was transported to Erie County Medical Center and later released.
The investigation is ongoing and police say further charges are expected.
