Troopers identify final victim in Orleans County triple-fatal crash

SHELBY, N.Y. (WHEC) — State police have identified the final victim in a crash that left three people dead in Orleans County.

The crash happened around 11:30 a.m. Saturday on State Route 63 in the Town of Shelby.

Gordon Tooley, 73, of Holley was driving a pickup truck when he was hit head-on by a U-Haul van that crossed the centerline. Both vehicles left the roadway and burst into flames, according to New York State Police.

Troopers previously identified the driver of the van as 80-year-old Charles Stevens of Black River and his passenger as 57-year-old Jeffrey Johnson of Carthage.

All three victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing.
