ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) -- The Rochester City School District presented its first attempt at balancing the 2019-20 budget.
In it, there are roughly 326 staff cuts including about 194 teachers, 26 teaching assistants, and 28 paraprofessionals.
Some of these proposed cuts are because of declining enrollment.
Programs are also being adjusted because of the decline in students.
Other major impacts include the end of the community schools initiative due to the end of a grant and a redesign of special education compliance and support.
"I think the overall cut, although it sounds terrible and it is, is about five percent and we should be able to absorb that. It may be in different places that I've proposed and I think that's what the next two months will tell," said RCSD Interim Superintendent Daniel Lowengard.
