All five were offered incentives to retire as part of next year's budget.

Former and current students came to see them off Monday.

"It's a family. It's been a family atmosphere when I came in 1989...we watch out for each other. People in Monroe watch out for each other," said Dunne.

Monroe's principal says their experience will be missed, but she's thankful their legacy will continue through the teacher's they've mentored.
