Many of those controversial 'I Love New York' signs that were deemed illegal are being sawed down as we speak!
The feds warned the governor that these signs were illegal before a single one of them ever went up.
Five years, 500 signs and nine million of your tax dollars later, most of them are now coming down.
News10NBC saw crews along 490 dismantling signs and sawing down the posts early Friday.
On the Thruway, News10NBC spotted some of the signs laying on the ground, waiting to be picked up.
The big mother boards, as they're called, will stay up but the lettering on them will change to meet federal standards.
The four consecutive signs that follow those big signs are what's being removed.
The state says it'll re-purpose some of them, and move them to service areas, welcome centers and other state-owned facilities that are not along the highway systems.
