60 mph winds damage Hilton home...again

HILTON, N.Y.(WHEC) -- A Hilton family is disappointed, yet thankful the wind damage to their home was not more devastating.

They woke up to a loud noise Friday morning that, oddly enough, was a familiar sound.

"My son ran in and said 'mom, mom, I just can't sleep,' said Kristin Riley. "It's just too loud and about five minutes later, my daughter started crying too saying 'mommy it's too loud' and so, as I went in her room, I knew exactly what was going on."

Kristin Riley wasn't shocked or even alarmed. The Riley's had been through this experience just two years earlier during the windstorm of 2017.

"You could just hear the flapping and loud noises. We looked out the window and you could see our siding all over the place," said Riley.

The noise they heard was the wind knocking the siding off of one side of the family's home. It was mostly gone by midday Friday.

The wind not only took the siding off but also severed the wall attached to the garage.

The Riley's moved here so their children could attend Hilton schools, so they've only lived in their home for 2 1/2 years.

This was disappointing, but they are taking it in stride.

"It was actually very frightening to be able to go into our playroom and press on that wall and feel the movement of that outside wall. So we had about $11,000 damage two years ago...I guess we're fortunate not to have to go through as much this time," Riley added.
