NAPLES, N.Y. (WHEC) — Two people from Ontario County are facing charges after deputies seized 73 dogs from their home in Naples.

Richard Justice, 65, and Jane Justice, 70, are each charged with 73 counts of animal cruelty and 73 counts of failure to provide food and water to an impounded animal.

Deputies responded to the pair's home on Lawyer Road after receiving a complaint about dogs running in the road on July 26. The dogs appeared to be flea-ridden with matted hair.

Officials say 73 Cairn terrier-type dogs were seized from the property during a search warrant on July 31. The animals were examined and treated and are now being cared for at the Humane Society. They are asking for any donations of dog food, blankets, dog treats and toys to help sustain the dogs.

The Town of Naples Code Enforcement Office has deemed the home unsafe and uninhabitable. Officials say breathing equipment and special suits were brought in due to unsanitary conditions.

The Justices were taken to the Ontario County Jail for pre-detention arraignment.
