SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WHEC) — Eight hundred pounds of butter was delivered to the New York State Fairgrounds Wednesday for the fair's famous butter sculpture.

The butter is made from more than 2,000 gallons of milk from Batavia.

It's called "scrap" butter because it was either damaged in packing or it was unsuitable for sale or consumption.

So, instead of throwing it away, sculptors create a piece of art for thousands of people to enjoy.

After the fair, the butter will get recycled into renewable energy.

The Great New York State Fair begins in just nine days.
