ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — After 34 years, 96-year-old Rosa Wims held her last pre-Thanksgiving dinner for the community today at the Montgomery Neighborhood Center in Rochester.

Wims started the event as a way to offer food and fellowship to those in the community who needed help. At first, she opened the doors to her home but the event outgrew the space very quickly.

“I've enjoyed it every year, it's been a joy to me and to just to see other people so happy, ya know and children happy,” Wims said.

For the last several years, she partnered with Foodlink for the event. The charity says it will continue to host the event now that Wims has retired.

Wims says she’ll keep a close eye on the event next year, and will probably pay a visit.
