Albany parents file federal lawsuit over school masking

GUILDERLAND, N.Y. (WHEC) — New York’s masking rule for students is now facing a legal challenge.

According to our affiliate in Albany, a group of parents in a town near the Capitol have filed a lawsuit against the state.

This lawsuit is 30 pages long and it lists out several reasons why parents say mask mandates in schools shouldn’t be allowed.

Parents say their children have experienced things like headaches and anxiety from the masks. Other parents say their children have learning disabilities and it’s challenging for them to not see mouths or facial expressions.

In addition, the lawsuit claims masks do not help stop the spread of COVID-19. However, health experts disagree.

This news comes after another lawsuit was filed last week which challenged New York’s requirement that most people must wear masks while in school buildings. State Senator George Borrello (R-57th District) who represents some of Livingston County is part of that lawsuit filed in the State Supreme Court.
