ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A parole hearing is set for this week for Alex Rideout, the son of murdered Penfield father Craig Rideout.

Alex was convicted in 2017 of tampering with evidence in the death of his father. He was sentenced to one-and-a-third to four years in prison.

His brother Colin Rideout and mother Laura Rideout were both found guilty of murder. They were sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.

Last week, Robbyn Drew, Craig's sister, spoke to News10NBC about the possibility of Alex being granted parole. She wonders if her nephew has ever understood the seriousness of this crime.

"When he was found in Mendon Ponds Park he quipped about 'oh I thought he was on his way to Mexico,'" Drew said. "It was certainly not something that he took seriously. It didn't appear he took what had happened seriously."

Drew thinks it's a mistake the state parole board is considering Alex for parole.

"You need to own up to what you did and not make light of it and not make a joke of it."
