KENT, N.Y. (WHEC) — The bomb squad was called after an aluminum canister washed ashore in Orleans County.

A picture was sent to News10NBC by Tom Rivers of the Orleans Hub.

Neighbors found the canister along West Jones Beach Drive in Kent around 7 p.m. Saturday.

Officials say it was a flare used by the Canadian Navy. They say the flares don't always completely burn out and could reignite.

It took about two hours to remove.
