The man accused of abducting a Rochester teen that triggered an Amber Alert is now in police custody in Rochester.
Police say 14-year-old Joanna Coates was taken by her neighbor, 41-year-old Robert Gonzalez, on LaSalle Street around 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1.
Coates and Gonzalez were found in Brooklyn on Tuesday.
Gonzalez was arrested on a pre-existing warrant. Coates' mother says her daughter was taken to the hospital to be evaluated.
According to state records, Gonzalez served nearly 4 years behind bars after being convicted in 1997 of criminal possession of a weapon at Gouverneur Correctional Facility, Kings County. In 2003, he was convicted of attempted criminal sale of a controlled substance and served 4 years at Chateaugay Correctional Facility, Franklin County. In 2008, Gonzalez was convicted of criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was released from the Orleans Correctional Facility in Albion in 2011.
Coates is still in New York City as of Wednesday morning, according to authorities.
An arraignment date for Gonzalez has not been set.
