ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC)- In a battle of top teams in the AHL's North Division, the first place Amerks hosted the second place Syracuse Crunch in a showdown of the hottest teams in the league.

The Amerks had recorded at least a point in eight straight games, but the Crunch had been undefeated in their last six. With eight of the last 31 games remaining set to feature these teams, they will be seeing each other a lot the rest of their schedules.

Rochester would be the first to strike, with Kevin Porter dropping it back to Taylor Leier in the first period to make it 1-0.

Syracuse would tie it up in the third with a Cory Conacher goal to send it into overtime, however, and there the Amerks fell in the shootout.
