We continue to honor this year's ESL Jefferson Award winners. The award recognizes those who volunteer their time to make our community a better place.
Today we introduce you to a woman, who for 30 years has helped the sick heal all thanks to man’s best friend.
You can say Ann Lacey gets by with a little help from her friends. Since 1996, they’ve been going to the Ronald McDonald House of Rochester. Lacey said, “It’s just so much fun. The most rewarding thing I have ever done.”
They provide much-needed pet therapy for families in crisis. Ronald McDonald House of Rochester President Carol DeMoulin said, “Ann brings a little slice of home to our home away from home for parents of ill or injured children. When Ann's here with the dogs, it brightens their day lightens their heart.”
Ann's work goes beyond these walls. She also brings her pals to schools and libraries where kids read to the dogs, they go to nursing homes and Strong for Strong Pets.
Where a mere visit can save lives. One patient’s story Ann remembers quite vividly. She said, “They were checking her blood pressure and within 15 minutes the nurse said your blood pressure is going down and I said there you go.”
The power of pets. “People just absolutely love dogs. I mean they're just the greatest.”
