A 22-year-old Rochester man has been arrested for a New Year's Eve arson in the City of Rochester.

Hunter D. Curtis is charged with arson in the fourth degree for the vacant house fire that took place at 158/160 Palm St. around 7:35 a.m. of Dec, 31, 2017.

The fire, which caused heavy smoke and flames to come from the second floor of the vacant residence, led to a second alarm being declared due to the amount of fire as well as cold single-digit temperatures that day which made firefighting difficult.

While the house suffered extensive damage, no injuries were reported.

Investigators say Curtis entered the house illegally, "recklessly" started the fire, and then fled without notifying any agencies.

He is currently in the Monroe County Jail awaiting arraignment.
