ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A Batavia native went missing in Ecuador last week.
Travis Sackett, 36, went missing on Feb. 21, 2021, in Ibarra, Ecuador. He was on a hike at Imbabura, a long-extinct volcano, and never came back. He hasn’t been seen since.
Sackett served several AmeriCorps and Peace Corps terms, so he is familiar with traveling in foreign countries.
His family is working with local authorities and the US Embassy in Ecuador to help locate him.
A rescue team searched for Sackett on Feb. 26 but wasn’t able to find him. Another search team will be sent to look for him on Thursday.
Sackett’s friends and family are urging US officials to act with more urgency, as he’s already been gone for more than 10 days.
They're offering a $2,000 reward for any information that helps locate him.
