PERINTON, N.Y. (WHEC) — News10NBC's #BeNicer campaign is gaining steam as more and more people are joining in, and standing up to cyberbullying.

One of our partners in the campaign is speaking out about why it's so important right now.

Inside Lyons National Bank's Perinton branch, employees are not only wearing #BeNicer t-shirts, but they're also selling them and they're going fast!

"After the first segment aired Monday morning, we had someone here when we opened at 9 a.m. asking for the shirts," branch manager James Bilotta said.

It's a message they embrace at Lyons National Bank.

"Being positive and being nicer makes a big difference," Bilotta said.

The message has been part of their success. Lyons National Bank has been around for more than 165 years. What was once a small bank in Lyons, now has 15 branches in seven counties.

"We emphasize the WOW! culture within our company and that really is exceeding customers expectations, which is quite simply just being nicer," Vice President of Marketing Barbara Hennessy said.

That mentality also expands beyond the bank's walls.

"We have dedicated staff that gives their time and talent," Hennessy said. "They volunteer with organizations, they are scout leaders, coaches, they're on chamber boards."

Employees average around 15,000 hours of community service every year.

When Lyons National Bank heard about the #BeNicer campaign, they jumped on board. At the time, they did not realize how much of an impact it would have both on employees and customers.

"Since this campaign started on Monday, I've had many people share with me how grateful they are that we're a part of this and that they or their children or cousins have been victims of bullying," Hennessy said. "This is such an important awareness campaign, and we're so thrilled to be a part of it."

Lyons National Bank sponsored the t-shirts. All proceeds benefit Rochester's Do The Right Thing program. They are for sale at Lyons National Bank's Perinton branch and also online.

"It's such a great fit for the culture that we have been exhibiting for over 165 years," Hennessy said.

The first round of t-shirts sold out quickly, but Lyons National Bank is funding another round, which will include children's sizes.
