GENEVA, N.Y. (WHEC) — Students are heading back to school this week, and your kids may notice a lot of blue shirts on the first day of class.

News10NBC is taking our #BeNicer campaign to local schools.

Tuesday, we welcomed back students at Geneva Middle School. Volunteers from Lyons National Bank handed out be nicer wristbands and students also got to pose with the #BeNicer selfie frame!

The goal is to remind everyone, not just kids, to be nicer online to combat cyberbullying. It's an issue affecting all local schools; one that can have serious consequences.

"Research is not saying that bullying causes suicide, but we do know there is a strong link between the two," Cassandra Berbary, a psychologist with Rochester Regional Health said.

Our #BeNicer teams will be at schools throughout the week. We're heading to Fairport, Rochester, Penn Yan, and Lyons on Wednesday. We'll be in Greece on Thursday.
