Betsy DeVos defends proposed cuts to Special Olympics

(WHEC) -- U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos is defending proposed cuts to the Special Olympics program. 

DeVos told a House subcommittee Tuesday, "we had to make some difficult decisions."

The budget proposed by President Trump and supported by DeVos calls for nearly $18 million in cuts to the Special Olympics all while proposing to add $60 million to charter school funding.

DeVos says the Special Olympics is an awesome organization, one that's well supported by the philanthropic sector.
