A man known for calling cancer stupid is doing something great at his alma mater.

David Fuehrer, a 1994 graduate of Bishop Kearney High School, presented Tori Romano, a BKHS senior, with the inaugural David Fuehrer Scholarship. Romano's mother has been battling a rare cancer for more than ten years. Fuehrer says this money will help Romano finish up his last year strong.

Fuehrer himself is a two-time cancer survivor.

Last year he launched the Stupid Cancer Mobile App to help cancer patients and those close to them connected with people with similar struggles as them.

"We just wanted to be able to connect younger people who are going through cancer, because it could be a very isolating experience whether it's us or going through it with family" Fuehrer said. "So we just set out with this idea to build an app that anybody could connect and find somebody who understood what they were going through."

Fuehrer says the app has been downloaded 3.5 million times in at least 100 countries.
