FAIRPORT, N.Y. (WHEC) - A tragic car accident took the lives of five Fairport students, but their families continue to honor them with a blood drive every year.
The Fairport Angels Blood Drive is coming up this Thursday. The annual event will be held at the St. John of Rochester gymnasium located at 8 Wickford Way in Fairport from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The blood drive comes around the 12th anniversary of the crash that took the lives of Hannah Cogdon, Bailey Goodman, Meredith McClure, Sara Monnat, and Katie Shirley.
This will be the eighth annual blood drive in their memory.
While walk-ins are welcomed, it is recommended to make an appointment by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767). You can also make an appointment by heading to RedCrossBlood.org and using the sponsor keyword StJohnOfRochesterFairport.
During the 2018 blood drive, they were able to collect 59 units of blood which helped save up to 177 lives.
