BRIGHTON, N.Y. (WHEC) — A group of young people called for state and local changes when it comes to climate change.

Brighton middle and high school students held a climate strike at 12 Corners Plaza on Friday afternoon.

The event organized by Liam Smith coincided with events across the state organized by young people in New York who are passionate about fighting climate change.

“This is our future, we're scared by what we're seeing by our government and the inaction on climate change,” Smith said.

The local strike for climate action came as world leaders gathered in Madrid for the UN Climate Change Conference.
