The new law also says that any missing or stolen guns must be reported to police immediately.

According to the Brighton Town Board members, "It is the purpose and intent of this local law to amend the Chapter 70 of the Brighton Town Code to provide for public safety and to promote the safe and responsible ownership and possession of firearms by making safe storage of firearms mandatory in the town and to require the reporting of lost, stolen or missing firearms. The only potential significant impact on environmental resources from this action is the positive impact in the increased safety and general welfare of persons in the Town of Brighton."
