Build-A-Bear CEO apologizes for promotion that left many empty-handed

Build-A-Bear has a lot of frustrated customers Friday, one day after a promotion proved to be too popular.

Thousands across the country, Canada, and the UK stood in long lines hoping to cash in on the company's 'pay your age' promotion.


But most left empty-handed because the company couldn't keep up with the demand.

The CEO of Build-A-Bear appeared on The Today Show Friday morning where she apologized to those who missed out.

"There was really no way for us to have estimated those crowds," stated Sharon Price John, Build-A-Bear CEO. "We were fully stocked, fully staffed. If I could do it over though, If there was a way to extend the day to just make sure we service everyone... I would have loved to have seen everyone get a bear but it was the sheer amount of crowds and how much time we have in the day." 

In spite of the chaos, the 'pay your age' promotion will continue all year long with Build-A-Bear's Count Your Candles birthday program.

That's where kids under the age of 14 can 'pay their age' for a bear during their birthday month.
