SANTA ANA, CA (NBC)— For Mr. Warren Bussey, Saturday was a special celebration.
Family, friends, strangers, and even the police came out to celebrate the California native's 107th birthday.
Bussey was born in 1913 in Texas, and he has lived in his home in Santa Ana since 1972. He served in the Army in World War II.
State records show he is the oldest Californian in the state.
Bussey has been part of several firsts, as in the late 1950's, he helped start what remains one of the only majority-black freemasons chapters in Orange County. Also in the 1950's, Bussey became the first black business person in the county to take out a full-page advertisement in a local newspaper.
