CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (WHEC) -- Two children appear to have escaped serious injuries Tuesday after being struck by a car in Ontario County.
Canandaigua Police responded to South Main and Coy streets in Canandaigua for the report of two children hit in a crosswalk by a vehicle.
The kids, ages 7 and 9, were crossing South Main Street with their grandmother when 27-year-old Mathew Gambino, of Rushville, hit them in the passing lane, police say.
Gambino allegedly passed several cars that had stopped in order for the children to safely pass.
Both children were thrown several feet into the roadway, police say. They were transported to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries that police say did not appear to be serious.
Gambino was not injured but he was issued traffic tickets for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk and for passing a stopped vehicle at a crosswalk.
