(WHEC) — A new study found cancer patients are more likely to die or have other serious complications from the coronavirus.

People with blood or lung cancers or tumors that have spread throughout the body are especially at risk.

Researchers looked at more than 600 coronavirus patients in central China; 105 of those patients also had cancer.

The study found that cancer patients were three times more likely to die from the virus when compared to people without cancer.

Cancer patients were also twice as likely to have severe symptoms, be admitted to the ICU and be intubated.

Those with blood cancers, lung cancer and cancer that had spread throughout the body had the highest frequency of serious complications.
