Horse dies after being hit by pickup truck in Ontario County

A horse was killed after being hit by a pickup truck on County Road 14 in Ontario County early Thursday morning.

Ar around 2:30 a.m., deputies responded to the report of horses on the highway near the intersection of County Road 35 and County Road 14. The owner of the horses, James Miller, was located and responded to herd the animals back to his property on County Road 14 in Ionia.

Deputies say a truck driven by Jeffrey Storie was traveling westbound on County Road 14 when one of the four horses ran into the path of the of the truck, killing the horse on impact.

Neither Storie or his passenger were injured. 

The West Bloomfield Highway Department removed the horse from the highway.

Deputies say an investigation continues into complaints about livestock in the roadway in that area.
