ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC)— We're getting a better idea of how many people are still getting COVID after being fully vaccinated, a situation recognized as "breakthrough" infections.
According to the CDC, those chances are slim, about one in 14,000. The CDC says about 5,800 people caught COVID out of about 77-million Americans who have been vaccinated.
Out of those 5,800 cases, 74 patients have died. The organization told NBC News most patients were asymptomatic, and did not require hospitalization.
Federal health experts say these cases are not unexpected, since no vaccine is 100% effective against the virus, but they reiterated that vaccinations remain critical to ending the pandemic.
