ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Gov. Andrew Cuomo Tuesday is expected to make an announcement on reopening in New York State.
It comes as Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) numbers show 70% of adult New Yorkers have received at least one dose of the vaccine as of Monday evening.
The CDC has a tracker which breaks down vaccination data across the country.
When the data is sorted by “People”, “At Least Once Dose”, “% of the Population” and “Population ≥ 18 Years of Age”, New York comes up as 70%.
Last week, Cuomo said that almost all of the state’s COVID-19 restrictions will be lifted once 70% of adult New Yorkers have received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
When he made the announcement last week, he said reaching that milestone would mean the state could lift capacity restrictions, social distancing and hygiene protocols, health screenings and potential tracing, with masks being required as recommended by the CDC, and with restrictions being kept in place at healthcare facilities and schools.
Earlier Monday, Cuomo announced that New York's vaccination rate had reached 69.9%.
Cuomo has not yet commented on the CDC's numbers. His announcement is scheduled for 12:15 p.m.
