The Champion Academy took to the streets of Downtown Rochester on Friday to do their own clean sweep.

The sweep is part of the mentoring program's monthly meet-up.

The Champion Academy crew talked to News10NBC today after we saw them cleaning up East Avenue, not far from our studios. They say they're just doing their part to keep Rochester beautiful.

"The Champion Academy is all about fighting for our future, and in our futures a lot of these students want to remain in Rochester, and we're all working together as a family so we want to make sure that Rochester in the future is going to be a beautiful place," says Tony Dreas, a program manager for the Champions Academy.

"It's important to clean our community," says Tatiyanna Greene, a member of the Academy, "because we need to keep our community safe and have it clean and help our community be a good community."

Part of the Champion Academy's mission is to be active members of the community. Members also strive to succeed at school and become role models.
