NEW YORK CITY (WHEC)- Clemson took the top spot in the first AP Top 25 college football poll of the season, while Syracuse begins the season at 22nd.
It is the first time since 1998 that the Orange began the season ranked in the poll, according to the Associated Press. They finished last season 15th in the polls.
The poll, released on Monday, has its top 5 rounded out by Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, and Ohio State.
Clemson won the national title last season. This is the first time the Tigers began a season at No. 1. They received 52 first-place votes, with Alabama- who had been preseason no. 1 the last three years- received the other 10.
