Monday night was the first Clergy on Patrol for newly appointed acting Rochester Police Chief Mark Simmons.

The Hayward Avenue neighborhood met their patrol officers who are in the area day in and day out.

Local ministers and leaders also introduced themselves to people in the neighborhood.

"It's important to build relationships with people," Chief Mark Simmons said. "It's important even for the police department with us helping to fight crime. I think once people know the officers that work and patrol this neighborhood, it makes it a little bit...easier for them to come forward with information and talk to us and have and build trust and relationships. So things like this are extremely important."

Clergy on Patrol is an annual series held in a new neighborhood every time.

Ministers and police work to build relationships while listening to the needs in each community.
