ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) -- There is a disturbing situation on the north side of Rochester and concerned neighbors are speaking up.

As it is now, the Route 104 underpass along Carter Street heading towards Irondequoit is littered with clothes, trash and drug needles.

Neighbors tell News10NBC they've seen people shooting up under the bridge and have been yelled at and harassed while stopping at the light.

They've made several complaints to the city and to the Department of Transportation.

In a statement, a spokesman for the DOT says, they "remain committed to providing resources to clean these areas, and we are equally committed to developing a long-term solution with agencies and organizations in our community who are properly equipped to address these important issues."

We also forwarded the pictures to the City of Rochester. The police department tells us they are sending a crew to the area to check it out and they will also increase patrols in the area to deter criminal behavior.
