BUFFALO, N.Y. (WHEC) -- Congressman Chris Collins still isn't sure if he will seek re-election in the 27th District.

On Friday, he responded to the Republican field widening.

The Buffalo News reports that Republican state Sen. Chris Jacobs plans to run against Collins in a 2020 primary.

Collins currently faces federal insider trading charges. On Friday, he said he'll know more about his legal situation in the fall.

That's when he'll decide whether or not to run.

Jacobs told The Buffalo News that Collins isn't an effective advocate for his district.

"Interesting that he brought that up the same day that Jane Corwin was confirmed as the new commissioner of the IJC, what's going on in Lake Ontario and my other selections from Michigan and Nevada were also confirmed," said Collins.

Collins says Jacobs is too liberal and would not suit the people of the 27th District.
