(WHEC) — Congressman John Katko is continuing his efforts to stop the controversial Green Light Law in New York.
The law would allow undocumented immigrants to get drivers licenses.
The Congressman is now calling on the Department of Justice to block the new state law. He argues that drivers licenses are visually identical to the federal real IDs and could lead to voter fraud.
Monroe is one of several counties that have sued the state over the law. The county argues that employees will be breaking federal immigration law by issuing the licenses.
Advocates say it will allow undocumented immigrants to get to work easier.
The Department of Justice has not responded to the Congressman's calls.
The law is currently set to go into effect in December.
