ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Nestlé, the owner of Gerber has announced its plans to fly in formula from the Netherlands and Switzerland to try to address the baby formula shortage. But this won’t immediately fix the problem.

America only imports about 2% of its baby formula and importing more is complicated because of differences in regulations. While the president said he’ll waive some regulations so we can import more formula, he’s not planning to waive the tariff of 17.5%. So if and when we do get more imports, they’re going to cost more because the cost of tariffs are eventually passed along to the consumer.

If you’re having trouble finding formula, the government has released a guide with some good resources. Click here.
