Convicted rapist on the loose after breaking GPS bracelet

A level three sex offender is missing from Central New York.

According to the New York State Department of Corrections, 66-year-old Ronald Cook broke free from his GPS ankle bracelet and is now wanted by police. 

Cook was convicted of first-degree rape after an incident near Binghamton in 1990 where he raped a 24-year old woman he did not know, according to the Department of Criminal Justice Services.

He was last seen Wednesday afternoon in Rome, Oneida County. He was wearing a bright yellow windbreaker. The sex offender registry lists his last known address as 129 Eagle St. in Utica, NY.

Officers say Cook is a sexually violent offender and should be considered dangerous. Anyone who sees him should immediately call 911.
