County leaders launch Recruit New York campaign

Monroe County leaders kicked off their Recruit New York Campaign on Thursday.

It's an effort to get more people to become volunteer firefighters in the community.

The event was held at the Ridge Culver Fire Department. This Saturday and Sunday, more than a dozen firehouses across the county will open their doors to the public, for tours, demonstrations, activities, and more.

It will all give people a chance to learn what becoming a member of the fire service entails.

"We know that almost seventy percent of firefighters in the United States are volunteers," says Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo, "That's a staggering number, seventy percent."

"We need our volunteer firefighters in our community, it is essential that we continue to raise the numbers, increase the number of volunteer firefighters here in Monroe County and throughout the nation."
