Governor Andrew Cuomo is mobilizing the troops to deal with the storm hitting much of New York.
On Saturday he announced he has directed the state's Emergency Operation Center to deploy hundreds of members of the national guard to provide transportation support and help with clearing debris.
The New York State Department of Transportation and the thruway authority have banned tractor-trailers and buses on the thruway.
Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo and New York State Police are also urging residents to avoid any unnecessary travel this weekend especially from noon on Saturday until noon on Sunday.
