ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Gov. Andrew Cuomo has clarified requirements for malls reopening.
Last week, he announced that malls would not be allowed to reopen in Phase Four.
On Monday, Gov. Cuomo said malls must have air conditioning systems that filter the coronavirus using high-efficiency particle air filters before they are allowed to reopen.
Gov. Cuomo said they've been shown to reduce coronavirus in the air.
While the filters are mandatory for malls, the state is recommending other businesses install them too.
"I would recommend, the state recommends for all businesses and offices, they explore the potential for their air conditioning air filtration system," Cuomo said.
News10NBC asked Wilmorite, the company that owns all three malls in our area, if they use the special filters.
Wilmorite said it’s asking the governor's office for clarification on the requirements.
Last week, it told us it has upgraded to medical-grade filtration systems at each of the malls.
