ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Gov. Andrew Cuomo is proposing some new rules when it comes to part-time workers and unemployment benefits.
The current system calculates unemployment benefits based on how many days a person worked in a week, but the new system would look at the number of hours a person works instead.
Gov. Cuomo says he believes this new rule would help businesses fill part-time positions while they try to recover from the pandemic.
The proposal is being submitted with the executive budget.
The changes would apply to any days worked starting Monday.
