ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed 10 bills Monday aimed at making limousines safer.
The legislative package includes bills requiring seat belts in limos. It would also allow the state to impound defective limos.
The measures came up last year, but lawmakers could not come to an agreement before the end of the session.
This comes on the heels of a limo crash in October 2018 that killed 20 people in Schoharie.
"These far-reaching reforms deliver much-needed protections that will help keep dangerous vehicles off our roadways, crack down on businesses that do not prioritize safety and will give New Yorkers piece of mind when they enter a limo in this state," Cuomo said.
Lawmakers are expected to tweak at least one measure that would slightly change the seatbelt requirement for taxis, Ubers and Lyfts.
